Porsche DLS, Light Gold

The Singer DLS (Dynamics and Lightweighting Study) is what happens when Singer, Williams Advanced Engineering and a small circle of specialists are turned loose on the air-cooled 911. Built around a donor 964, it is re-engineered rather than restored: a 4.0-litre flat-six developed with Hans Mezger's input, naturally aspirated and revving to 9,000 rpm, carbon bodywork shaped to honour the long-hood silhouette, and details obsessed over to a degree the original factory never attempted. It shows in the proportions: the slim bumpers, the round headlamps, the ducktail rising cleanly off the engine cover, the deep front splitter and rear diffuser that betray the aero work beneath the nostalgia. It is not a restomod so much as a rebuttal to the idea that the 911 was ever finished.

The light gold is the right call for a car this serious. Warm and metallic, it lets the surfacing read without shouting, set against gloss-black centre-lock wheels and the discreet script along the sill. Make Up captures the DLS at 1:18 with the panel separation, glazing and stance the real car demands, down to the diffuser fins and quad exhaust. A study in restraint, scaled to match.
