For the DLS, Williams Advanced Engineering built an entirely new engine: a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six with four valves per cylinder and four camshafts, rated at 500 hp and revving to 9,000 rpm. Hans Mezger, the Porsche engine designer, gave input during its development. A lightweight six-speed manual gearbox in magnesium could be specified, and with magnesium, titanium and carbon fibre used throughout the car, Singer gave a minimum weight of 990 kg. The donor is still a 964-generation 911, supplied by the customer, but the DLS has an all-carbon body with widened wings and a lighter suspension with better geometry and more adjustment.
Azzurro Tethys is a pale metallic blue grey, and on this car it covers everything but the black front splitter, sill trims and rear diffuser. The Fuchs-style wheels are silver with dark centres and centre-lock nuts, the headlamps sit in chrome rings, and the rear arches swell wide over the tyres. The tail carries a raised ducktail with a small Singer script, a mesh panel between the lamps and a tailpipe at each corner. The cabin is dark. The car stands on a pale suede-finish base with a card plaque. Make Up builds it at 1:18.
