Number 22 has its own place in the story of Porsche and Martini. At Le Mans in 1971 the Martini International Racing Team's 917K, number 22, driven by Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep, won the 24 Hours outright. Underneath it was chassis 053, one of three 917s built that year with a magnesium tube frame in place of the usual aluminium. Four decades later the stripes came back for the 918 Spyder. Porsche signed a new agreement with the Martini brand in 2012 and ran its 918 test cars in Martini Racing colours, a design it offered only on the 918.
This version swaps the white base for silver, and the usual blues and red for dark blue and white. The stripes run over the bonnet and along the flanks, with Martini roundels, the number 22 on each door and a Martini Racing Porsche banner across the windscreen. The mirror caps are acid green, like the hybrid script on the front wings, and the cabin is black with carbon trim. The wheels are silver, and the California number plate at the back reads NOT A917. The roof panels can be fitted or left off, as the photographs show. The etched plaque on the white leather base lists the car's figures and reads Limited, one of 12. It is built at 1:18.
