Porsche 917K, Gulf, weathered

Few liveries carry the weight the Gulf 917 does. This is the JW Automotive Porsche 917K in full powder-blue and orange, the car that took endurance racing by the scruff at the turn of the 1970s. It is finished here as it looked at the flag rather than in the brochure: dust down the flanks, rubber and grime worked into the bodywork, the patina of a car that has actually been raced.

The weathering is done by hand over the number 2 Gulf colours, with the short, upswept tail and the exposed rear suspension reproduced underneath. Mounted on a presentation base. A racing car caught mid-season, not polished for the showroom.
