The 993 was the last air-cooled 911, and the Turbo S sent that lineage out at full voltage. Built in tiny numbers at the close of the 1990s, it took the twin-turbocharged flat-six of the standard 993 Turbo and pushed it harder still, channelled through all-wheel drive and reined in by yellow-painted brakes peeking through the hollow-spoke wheels. The fixed biplane wing with its twin air scoops, the widened haunches and the four-pipe exhaust are the giveaways of the S: this was the connoisseur's air-cooled Porsche, the one collectors now chase precisely because it marked the end of an era before Stuttgart turned to water cooling.
Speed Yellow suits it well, an unapologetic period hue that throws every curve of that pinched, rounded 993 body into relief from nose to ducktail. The casting carries the detail through cleanly, from the slatted rear wing to the lettered tail script and the cabin trim glimpsed behind the glass. It is built at 1:18 and sits on a carbon-finish display base. It is one of 20.
