Porsche 911 Targa Garage Diorama, Orange & Grey

Sold

Porsche added the Targa to the 911 range for the 1967 model year: a stainless steel roll bar behind the front seats and a removable roof panel, named after the Targa Florio road race in Sicily, where Porsche had already won seven times. Targa is Italian for plate. The first cars had a removable plastic rear window, with fixed glass offered from 1968. The 2.4-litre engine of 1972 and 1973 gave the 911 S 190 PS, and for 1974 came the impact bumpers that would stay essentially unchanged for fifteen years.

This diorama is a Porsche specialist's workshop with three Targas at different stages. On the cobbled floor stands a finished orange 911 S Targa on Fuchs-style alloys; above it, on a two-level rack, are a grey impact-bumper Targa without its wheels and a rusted orange shell. Around them are a yellow forklift, a blue engine crane with a flat-six on its hook, another engine on a pallet, oil drums, a pillar drill, seats, tyres and shelves of period oil tins, filters and boxes. The rendered walls carry a painted Porsche crest, Porsche 911 and Dunlop signs and a poster for the 1000 km of Monza of 25 April 1971, and strip lights under the timber roof beams light the scene. The whole room sits in a case with aluminium corner posts.
