Singer Vehicle Design was founded in Los Angeles in 2009 by Rob Dickinson, formerly the frontman and guitarist of the band Catherine Wheel. The name nods to that singing career and to Norbert Singer, the Porsche engineer. From the start its subject was the 964, the 911 generation Porsche built from 1989 with a 3.6-litre flat-six, coil springs and, for the first time on a 911, power steering and ABS. The owner supplies the donor car, and Singer rebuilds it with bodywork largely in carbon fibre. The result was first sold as the Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer, the name this piece carries, and was renamed the Classic Study once other models had joined the range. Examples have sold at auction for more than a million dollars.
This coupé is painted a light grey, with PORSCHE script in orange along the sills and across the tail and a small orange 911 badge on the engine lid. Through the glass the cabin is trimmed in a warm brown. The round headlamps sit in chrome rings and the five-spoke Fuchs-style wheels have polished lips. At the back are the slatted engine grille and two central tailpipes. The car sits on a dark textured base edged in red, with a mirrored plaque. Make Up builds it at 1:18.
