Gunther Werks made the 400R public in August 2017. The plan was a series of 25 cars, each a 993, the final air-cooled 911, rebuilt with carbon fibre bodywork and a 4.0-litre flat-six from Rothsport of more than 400 hp, with owners choosing the materials and colours of their own car. An RM Sotheby's auction catalogue later stated that all 25 had been completed and delivered. Gunther Werks is based in Huntington Beach, California.
This example is yellow with twin black stripes over the bonnet and roof, black five-spoke wheels and yellow brake calipers. PORSCHE is lettered in black along each sill and across the engine lid, and at the back the full-width light bar sits above a Gunther Werks plate and twin central tailpipes. A carbon splitter runs under the nose. The cabin is black with carbon-shelled bucket seats, lifted by yellow details: yellow instrument faces, a yellow marker at the top of the steering wheel and yellow pulls on the carbon door cards. The carbon pattern base carries a plaque naming Timothy & Pierre and the Gunther Werks 400R, marked as a limited edition of 20. Timothy & Pierre builds it at 1:18.
