The 400R was revealed at The Quail in Monterey in August 2017, and by July 2018 Gunther Werks had begun production in Southern California, after nearly ten months of testing and tuning. Only 25 were planned, each converted from a 993, the last generation of the air-cooled Porsche 911. The recipe is a 4.0-litre air-cooled flat-six of more than 400 hp, a Getrag G50 manual gearbox with revised ratios, KW Clubsport coilovers and a body largely remade in carbon fibre, from the bumpers and wings to the roof and engine lid. Gunther Werks made the handover an occasion as well: delivery came with a day at a luxury resort in California and a bespoke fountain pen presented with the keys.
This one is presented in bare carbon, the weave showing across the body under a deep gloss, on gold five-spoke wheels with the Porsche crest at their centres. A gold stripe along the sills carries PORSCHE in red, and the same red fills the cabin: red door cards and dashboard top, and red seats in carbon shells with centres in a grey and white check. The car is set on a black base faced in carbon weave, its Timothy & Pierre plaque naming the Gunther Werks 400R and marking it as a limited edition. Timothy & Pierre builds it at 1:18.
