The 993 was the last air-cooled Porsche 911, and Gunther Werks kept its 400R air-cooled too. The engine is enlarged to 4.0 litres, with new pistons, new engine management and individual throttle bodies, and makes more than 400 hp and 447 Nm with a 7,800 rpm redline. A reworked Getrag G50 manual with revised ratios and a single-plate clutch sends the power to the rear wheels. The silencer comes from a 997 GT3, with a switchable system that adds sound and power and a lightweight titanium exhaust offered as an option. Shown at The Quail in Monterey in August 2017, the 400R was planned as a run of 25.
This model is gloss black, with twin stripes of exposed carbon over the front lid, roof and tail, each edged in a thin red line. PORSCHE runs along the sills in red on a dark grey stripe and again across the tail, and the gloss black five-spoke wheels carry crested centres. Through the glass the cabin is red: red seats in carbon shells, red door cards and a carbon dashboard with its dials. The car sits on a black base faced in carbon weave, with a plaque reading Timothy & Pierre, Gunther Werks 400R and Limited Edition, one of 20. Timothy & Pierre builds it at 1:18, in an edition of 20.
