Porsche launched the 964 in 1989, first as the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, and reckoned the car about 85 per cent new against the Carrera 3.2 it replaced. Coil springs took the place of torsion bars, power steering and ABS became standard on a 911 for the first time, and the engine grew to a 3.6-litre flat-six of 250 PS. It came as a coupé, a cabriolet and a targa; of the targas, 3,534 were Carrera 2s and 1,329 were Carrera 4s. Singer Vehicle Design, founded in Los Angeles in 2009 by Rob Dickinson, builds what it now calls the Classic Study on a customer's 964, coupé or targa, with bodywork largely in carbon fibre.
This targa is finished in Dream Grey Charm Blue, a soft pale blue, and is shown with the roof panel off, so the dark targa hoop frames a tan cabin with orange-brown seats. PORSCHE script in a lighter grey runs along the sills and across the tail. The wheels are five-spoke Fuchs-style rims with polished lips, and at the back a slatted engine grille sits above orange-lensed lamps and twin central tailpipes. The car stands on a tan leather base with contrast stitching and a white card plaque. Make Up builds it at 1:18.
