The G-Class began as a military vehicle, developed after a suggestion from the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Work started in 1972 as a joint project between Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Graz, Austria: engineers in Stuttgart handled the design and testing, and the Graz team planned production. A wooden model was shown to the Daimler-Benz board in 1973, a drivable prototype was tested in 1974, and the G Model went into production in Graz in 1979, when it was also offered to private buyers. It was revised for 1990 as the W463, and the second-generation W463 was launched at the Detroit motor show on 14 January 2018.
This G 63 is two-tone. The lower body is in a coffee shade, a warm ochre gold, and the pillars and roof are white, divided from it by a fine pinstripe along the shoulder. The spare-wheel cover matches the lower body. Polished five-spoke wheels with closed centres and coloured caps carrying the star sit over red callipers and Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. V8 BITURBO script is on the front wings, the grille has chrome vertical slats, the bumpers are silver, and the car wears S G 6324 number plates. It stands on a black base with red stitching and red edges. It is built at 1:18.
