Officially it was the XK120-C, the C standing for competition, and the recipe was simple to state and hard to execute. Jaguar took the running gear of its road-proven XK120, with the twin-cam straight-six at 3.4 litres, and set it in something far lighter: a tubular frame designed by chief engineer William Heynes, clothed in an aerodynamic aluminium body developed by Heynes, Bob Knight and later Malcolm Sayer. The result won Le Mans at its first attempt. Jaguar built 53 between 1951 and 1953, and 43 of them went to private owners.
This is CMC's standard C-Type, in British Racing Green with no race numbers, plates or decals to interrupt the line. The bonnet hinges forward in one piece and locks open over the engine, its pipes and wiring; the driver's door opens to a tan leather seat beside a fabric tonneau over the passenger side. The wishbone front suspension, rigid rear axle and transverse torsion bar are modelled beneath, and Dunlop Racing tyres sit on stainless-spoked wheels whose knock-offs carry left- and right-hand threads. CMC builds it at 1:18, from 1,155 parts.
