Honda built the first Accord as a platform expansion of the Civic, 4,125 mm long on a 2,380 mm wheelbase and weighing about 900 kg. It sold well on the strength of its moderate size and its fuel economy, and the name went on to make history: in 1982, with the next generation, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese maker to be produced in the United States, at Marysville in Ohio. This is the original three-door hatchback in 1979 LX form, the year after Honda added the LX with air conditioning, a digital clock and power steering, and it carries the five-speed manual gearbox named on its tail.

Here the paint is a deep metallic blue and the interior is black: black ribbed seats, black door panels, a black console and a dashboard with a small CVCC plate, the three-spoke steering wheel and the gearlever in its gaiter. The tailgate carries the CVCC, Honda and Accord LX badges and the 5 speed script, the grille its CVCC badge between quad round headlamps, and the silver slotted wheels their Honda centre caps. Chrome bumpers with black rubber strips run front and rear. It is mounted on an orange stitched base with an engraved plaque naming the 1979 Honda Accord LX CVCC Hatchback, from a limited edition of 50.
