Strip away the team colours and the Bartoletti shows what it was: a Fiat bus chassis with a ladder frame and a six-cylinder diesel of around 92 hp, with body and lifting platform built by Carrozzeria Bartoletti of Forlì. More than nine metres long and good for about 85 km/h, it was a workshop and crew base on wheels, carrying two racing cars on its upper deck and a third below. Ferrari and Maserati both ran essentially identical transporters of this type from 1957, differing mainly in paint and decals, and the Fiat 642 RN2 underneath was later succeeded by the more powerful 682 RN. Without a livery, the engineering is the story: the hoist, the folding ramps, the rows of lockers and the long, glazed cab.
CMC's clear-finish version leaves every metal part unpainted, brushed, sanded and clear-lacquered, so the die-cast zinc, stainless steel and copper show as they are, with copper edging around the wing arches and the 'Fiat 642 RN2' script on the nose. The working car hoist runs on metal rails, the ramps fold and stow, the chequer-plate decks are fully detailed, and the side lockers open on wood-finished shelving beside a pull-out tool drawer. The cab doors open on tan leather seats and a polished dashboard. Limited to 500 pieces and weighing about 4.5 kg, it is built by CMC at 1:18 from 2,877 parts.
