Ferrari Dino 308 GT4, Silver

Ferrari's first V8 production car was a Dino. The 308 GT4 carried a 2,927 cc V8 mounted across the car behind the cabin, inside a 2+2 body only about 4.3 metres long, and it was the first production Ferrari to put a V8 in the middle. A smaller version followed in 1975 for the Italian market, where cars with engines over two litres paid a higher rate of tax: the 208 GT4, with a 1,991 cc version of the same engine, introduced at the Geneva Motor Show. Both stayed in production until 1980, by which time 2,826 of the 308 and 840 of the 208 had been built.

This one is silver, which suits the GT4's flat planes and sharp edges, with a black interior: pleated black seats front and rear, a silver-faced instrument panel with round dials, and a black three-spoke wheel with a yellow centre badge. The gear lever stands in an open gate on the centre console. Outside, the Ferrari shield sits on each front wing, prancing horses fill the centres of the silver alloy wheels, and each rear cluster holds three round lamps above two pairs of tailpipes, with the Dino script on the tail. The car rests on a black leather base with a stitched border, and its plaque, with the Ferrari shield, reads Dino 308 GT4 and Limited Edition, one of 20.
