For the 1966 season Ferrari built a series of twelve lightweight 275 GTB/C racers, developed by Mauro Forghieri's engineers. They looked much like the road-going 275 GTB, but every body panel was changed: the aluminium skin was just 0.028 in thick, half the gauge of a 250 GTO's, the side and rear windows were Plexiglas, many engine castings were magnesium alloy, and the dry-sump V12 breathed through three Weber 40 DF13 carburettors made for this car alone. Most raced on Borrani wire wheels; two of the twelve were sold for road use on cast alloy wheels. NART, Maranello Concessionaires, Scuderia Filipinetti and Ecurie Francorchamps all raced them, and at Le Mans in 1966 the Maranello Concessionaires car finished eighth overall and won its class.
This version is in plain red with no race numbers, and CMC fits it with cast alloy wheels on Dunlop tyres rather than the usual wires. The bonnet lifts on a self-locking stay to the V12 and its three twin-choke Webers, the doors open with movable quarter-lights, and the boot holds the fuel filler and a removable spare wheel. The black cockpit has a roll bar, belts, leather-padded bucket seats, a fire extinguisher and a wood-look Nardi three-spoke wheel, and chromed tailpipes exit on both sides. CMC builds it at 1:18 as a hand-assembled metal precision model of 781 parts, about 24 cm long.
