The 250 LM was meant to replace the GTO in GT racing, but when the FIA refused to homologate it in April 1964 it had to race as a prototype, mostly in the hands of private teams. Colonel Ronnie Hoare's Maranello Concessionaires, Ferrari's importer in Britain, entered one for Graham Hill and Jo Bonnier in the Reims 12 Hours of 4 and 5 July 1964. They beat the North American Racing Team LM of John Surtees and Lorenzo Bandini by a single lap, covering almost 2,450 km at an average of 204 km/h. The team's GTO/64, driven by Mike Parkes and Ludovico Scarfiotti, finished third, completing a Ferrari sweep of the podium.
The model shows the winning car in clean condition, in Maranello Concessionaires colours: red with a pale-blue nose and centre stripe, a Union Jack and the registration 499 FX on the nose, the same number on the rear plate, and #7 roundels. The rear body lifts in one piece over the V12 and the inboard rear brakes, the front lid opens to the spare wheel, and the doors have sliding windows. The right-hand-drive cockpit has blue textile seats, belts, a gear lever in an open gate and a wood-rimmed wheel. CMC builds it at 1:18 as a hand-assembled metal precision model of more than 1,800 parts, in a limited edition of 1,500.
