Nobody gave chassis 5893 much of a chance at Le Mans in 1965. The 250 LM was the 250 P prototype with a roof, refused GT homologation by the FIA, and it faced Ford's 7-litre GT40s and Ferrari's own works P2s. Luigi Chinetti's North American Racing Team had Piero Drogo give it a longer nose and handed it to Masten Gregory and a young Jochen Rindt. A misfire cost them half an hour early on; rejoining 18th, they drove flat out. As the faster cars broke, the private 250 LM of Pierre Dumay and Gustave Gosselin led until a tyre blew on the Mulsanne Straight, and the NART car took a five-lap lead it never gave up. It was Ferrari's sixth Le Mans win in a row, and its last outright victory there until 2023.
Martisan presents it in the colours it won in: red, with white #21 roundels on the nose, doors and tail, the N.A.R.T. badge beneath the prancing horse, leather straps across the front lid and wire wheels on knock-off spinners. Everything opens. The rear clamshell lifts away on the V12, its six twin-choke carburettors and the strapped-in spare wheel; the doors open onto a wood-rimmed wheel, a gated gearlever and cloth seats with harnesses. The body beneath the paint is copper, and the edition is limited. Martisan builds it at 1:18.
