Cadillac brought out the first Escalade for the 1999 model year, a rushed answer to the late 1990s luxury SUV boom and to Lincoln's Navigator in particular. The fifth generation was revealed on 4 February 2020 in Beverly Hills for the 2021 model year, and production, held back by the pandemic, began that September. Built on GM's T1XX platform, it was the first Escalade with independent rear suspension. The standard engine was the 6.2-litre L87 V8, and a curved OLED display 38 inches across spanned the dash, with Super Cruise hands-free driving and an optional 36-speaker AKG sound system. The 600 badge on the tailgate is Cadillac's torque rating, in newton metres rounded to the nearest 50.
The model is finished in Metallic Black, with chrome on the grille bars, the window line and the lower trim. Vertical lamps run down the front corners and up the rear pillars, the Cadillac crest sits in the grille and on the tailgate, and the multi-spoke wheels are dark grey. ESCALADE lettering and the 600 badge sit either side of a Cadillac script plate. The car stands on a black base with a mirrored floor. MotorHelix builds it at 1:18.
