Sweden had one of the most graphic schemes of the era: a blue lower body, a yellow top and blue bands running across the bonnet, with white numbers. On a Type 35 it frames the long bonnet and the engine beneath it, which is where the car's reputation was made. Bugatti's 1924 Grand Prix car used a 1,991 cc straight-eight with an overhead camshaft and three valves per cylinder, its crankshaft running in roller bearings, in a narrow body that tapers to a pointed tail. Underneath, the front axle was hollow to save unsprung weight, and the cast alloy wheels carried their brake drums within the spokes. It was a light, balanced and beautifully made machine, and it went on to win more than a thousand races and, in 1926, the Grand Prix World Championship for Bugatti.
CMC's Swedish car is yellow over a blue lower body, with blue bands across the bonnet, blue chassis members and a white 5 on the sides and tail. The louvred bonnet lifts to show the straight-eight with brass carburettors and copper lines, a leather strap holds the bonnet down, and the spare is strapped to the flank. Inside are an engine-turned dashboard, a cord-bound steering wheel and a black leather seat. CMC builds it at 1:18 from more than 930 parts, in a limited edition of 500.
