Bolide comes from the Greek word for a spear, later used in French for a meteorite, and Bugatti gave the name to its track car built around the W16. The experimental car was revealed online on 28 October 2020, claiming 1,850 PS on 110-octane racing fuel. At The Quail in California on 13 August 2021 Bugatti announced that it would build 40 for customers at four million euros each, with deliveries planned for 2024. The production car runs on 98 RON fuel and makes 1,600 PS from the 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16, with a kerb weight of 1,450 kg, and carries racing safety equipment: HANS compatibility, an automatic fire extinguisher, a fuel bladder, centre-lock wheels and six-point belts.
This one is finished in bright blue over bare black carbon, the blue running along the nose, the cockpit sides and the edge of the wing, where W16.4 is written large. The wheels are black with blue rims, on Michelin tyres lettered in blue, and the bodywork carries Jacob & Co and Champagne Carbon decals, Bugatti Engineering script and a French flag low on each side. At the back the four exhausts sit high in the X-shaped tail above the finned diffuser. The car sits on a navy leather base with pale blue stitching and a chrome script nameplate. MR Collection builds it in resin at 1:18.
