The front of the GINA can change its expression. With the lights off, the nose is an unbroken sweep of fabric around the kidney grille; switch them on and small motors draw the skin back from slits in the nose, opening the headlamps in a movement widely likened to eyelids. Even the kidneys take part: when the engine needs extra cooling air, the grille can be opened. It is a direct expression of the car's name, Geometry and Functions In 'N' Adaptions: nothing on the surface unless it is in use, and the surface itself able to change to suit. BMW revealed the car in June 2008, after seven years of work kept from public view.
Turquoise metallic, a bright blue with a hint of green and a fine flake, makes this one of the liveliest pieces in the series, set against a white and light grey interior. The headlamps are shown open, slim and angled either side of the twin kidneys, and the white-rimmed steering wheel and stacked round dials are cleanly modelled inside. Split-spoke wheels with BMW centre caps, stalk-mounted mirrors and paired tailpipes in a carbon-weave diffuser complete it. The plaque on its stitched grey base marks it as one of 7. Built at 1:18.
