The 918 Spyder was Porsche's plug-in hybrid hypercar: a 4.6-litre V8 working with two electric motors for 887 PS, built in a run of exactly 918 cars between September 2013 and June 2015. That September it lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes 57 seconds, a record for a road-legal production car at the time. The setting is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, completed in 2007 and inaugurated that December, with 82 domes clad in white marble, four minarets at the corners of its courtyard and the tomb of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding President of the UAE, who was buried there in 2004.

The painting sets the silver 918 low in the foreground, turned towards the viewer, its bodywork picking up the blue of the sky and its green brake calipers showing through the wheels. Behind it the mosque's domes and minarets rise in soft whites and lilacs, framed by date palms, with the long shadow of a palm thrown across the forecourt. The handling is photorealist, car and architecture painted with the same smooth, even finish under a deep clear sky, and the composition keeps a calm symmetry around the central dome. Signed by the artist at lower left, it is an original painting, one of one.
