Porsche 911 Turbo S, Guards Red

The 993 was the last of the air-cooled 911s, and the Turbo S sent that bloodline out at full voice. Built in tiny numbers at the end of the run, it took the twin-turbo flat-six past 420 horsepower, fed it through four-wheel drive, and wrapped the lot in the 993's wide, low-slung body. The intent is clear in the details: the fixed biplane rear wing with its scooped intakes, the yellow brake calipers behind hollow-spoke wheels, the quad tailpipes under the bumper. It is the connoisseur's 911 (the car people who already own several Porsches tend to want), fast in a mechanical, unfiltered way that the water-cooled cars that followed never quite replicated.

Rendered in Guards Red, the classic Porsche signal colour, the gloss sits hard and even over the curves of the rear haunches and the long bonnet. The cabin is picked out behind the glass, the Turbo S script reads cleanly on the engine lid, and the wheels and calipers are finished separately rather than printed on.
