Porsche released the 964 Turbo 3.6 in January 1993 and built it for only two model years, 1993 and 1994. It replaced the 3.3-litre Turbo of 1990, whose engine had come over from the 930, with a turbocharged version of the 3.6-litre M64 flat six, rated at 360 PS at 5,500 rpm and 520 Nm. Fewer than 1,500 were made. The shape is the wide-bodied 964 Turbo: flared rear wings, a fixed rear spoiler with a slatted grille, the PORSCHE name across the rear panel and round headlamps set into sloping front wings.
The sculpture renders it in one pale grey material, car and base together, so the car seems to be sinking into the ground with its wheels half buried. Fine pores show across the surface, most clearly on the spoiler. There is no colour anywhere; the detail is all in the shape: the wiper blades on the windscreen and rear window, the door handles, the mirrors on their stalks, the slats in the spoiler grille and the PORSCHE lettering on the tail. Beside the car the base carries the Porsche crest, the PORSCHE name, 911 turbo 3.6 (964) in script and, on an inset strip, Limited Edition, one of 100.
