Singer Vehicle Design was founded in Los Angeles in 2009 by Rob Dickinson, formerly the singer and guitarist of the band Catherine Wheel. The name does two jobs: it honours the Porsche engineer Norbert Singer and acknowledges Dickinson's years as a vocalist. The company restores and modifies Porsche 911s, starting from a customer's 964, and much of the original bodywork is replaced with carbon fibre panels. For the engines Singer has worked with Cosworth, Ed Pink Racing Engines and Williams, each reworking the air-cooled flat-six for considerably more power.
This one is painted a pale Tiffany blue and picked out in orange. The five-spoke wheels in the Fuchs pattern are orange with polished rims, PORSCHE runs in orange script along the lower doors and across the tail, and a gold Singer signature sits on the engine lid. The ducktail carries a fine mesh grille, twin exhaust pipes exit in the centre below the bumper, and PORSCHE is embossed on the number plate panel. Through the glass the cabin shows tan and orange seats with a light headlining, and the round headlamps and chrome mirrors are crisply finished. It sits on a wood-topped base. It is built at 1:18.
