Rob Dickinson, former frontman of the band Catherine Wheel, was driving a 1969 Porsche 911 in Los Angeles in the early 2000s, and work on that car grew into a business. Singer Vehicle Design was founded there in 2009, its name a nod both to his old job and to Norbert Singer, the Porsche engineer closely involved in all sixteen of the marque's overall Le Mans wins between 1970 and 1998. Each car starts as an owner's 964, rebuilt with carbon-fibre panels in the shape of an early long-bonnet 911 and specified with the client; the firm now calls it the Classic Study. This commission keeps to white, with black and orange as its only accents.
The white is a soft, warm shade, crossed by twin black pinstripes along the sills and bumpers, with PORSCHE in orange on each flank and across the tail. Orange five-spoke centres sit inside bright rims, with red calipers behind, and two driving lamps stand on the bonnet beside the central fuel filler. Inside, orange runs from the dashboard and door panels to the seats and the drilled three-spoke wheel's rim. The engine lid opens on six mesh-capped intake trumpets and a ribbed fan housing, against an orange bulkhead. It stands on a carbon-patterned base; the brushed plaque carries the Singer Vehicle Design script and the edition, one of 15. IVY builds it at 1:12.
