Much of a Singer's character comes from its engine. The air-cooled flat-six of the 964 is kept as the starting point, but Singer has had it reworked by specialists including Cosworth, Ed Pink Racing Engines and Williams. The largest option for the Classic cars, a 4.0-litre built by Ed Pink, keeps the 964 block and changes almost everything inside it, from the pistons, cylinders and heads to the crankshaft, cams and throttle bodies, and is quoted at 390 bhp at 7,200 rpm. The rev counter, often faced in Singer's own orange, is marked up to 11, a nod to the famous joke from This Is Spinal Tap.
This one is painted a bright orange, with PORSCHE in black along the doors and across the tail, and white five-spoke wheels in the Fuchs style with red calipers showing behind them. The filler cap sits in the middle of the bonnet. The engine lid lifts to show the flat-six with its six mesh-topped intake trumpets and ribbed fan housing, and the cabin is black, with eyeleted seats, a drilled three-spoke wheel, drilled aluminium footwell plates and that orange rev counter in the centre of the dials. It stands on a black base edged and stitched in orange, and the plaque carries the Singer Vehicle Design signature and the edition, one of 20. IVY builds it at 1:12.
