Léon Dernier raced under the name Eldé, and by 1964 he already had two Le Mans podiums to it, third overall in 1959 and again in 1962, both shared with Beurlys. That year he took 904-040 to the 500 km of Spa on 17 May, the race Mike Parkes won in a Ferrari 250 GTO, and finished eighth in the 2-litre GT class. He kept the car busy through the summer, sixth at the Grand Prix of Zolder in July and sixth again in the Rheinland-Pfalz-Preis in August, and brought it back to Spa in 1965 to finish tenth.
CMC's model is silver, with the front lid painted red and carrying a white #43 roundel, the number repeated on the doors and tail, and the gold Carrera GTS script on the rear. The red lid lifts on the fuel tank and spare wheel; the tail swings back on its hinges to show the four-cam flat-four, its carburettors under mesh-capped intakes and the Porsche name cast into the fan housing. The doors open to blue cloth seats, a grey-blue dashboard and a wood-rimmed wheel. A limited edition of 1,500. CMC builds it at 1:18.
