Dickie Stoop, a former RAF fighter pilot, had finished ninth at Le Mans in 1950 in a Frazer Nash. By 1964 he was racing a Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, chassis 904-045, finished in Irish green. On 19 July 1964 he took it to Snetterton for the meeting held in memory of Archie Scott Brown, racing as #71: Roy Salvadori won outright in a Ferrari 250 LM, and Stoop brought the Porsche home fifth overall and first in the GT class up to 2.5 litres. The 904 was Porsche's GT racer for that season: the first Porsche with a glass-fibre body, bonded to a steel ladder frame, its low shape drawn by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, with a two-litre flat-four mounted ahead of the rear axle. Just over a hundred were built so that it could be homologated for GT racing.
CMC's model is painted Irish green, with a white #71 on the front lid and doors, YOU 4 plates and the megaphone exhausts at the tail. The doors open, the front lid lifts over the spare wheel, and the whole rear section hinges up to show the flat-four and the suspension around it. Inside are blue cloth bucket seats, a wood-rimmed wheel and a dashboard of round dials; the headlamps sit beneath clear fairings screwed to the wings. A limited edition of 1,500 pieces, built by CMC at 1:18.
