904-098 left the factory on 5 June 1964 in light ivory with blue cloth upholstery, and Bonhams, quoting the marque authority Jerry Pantis, described it as the only 904 to leave the factory in ivory. Supplied through Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, it was raced in the American South by Ted Tidwell, ninth overall and second in the 2-litre GT class at the Pensacola round of the 1965 USRRC. The dark blue it wears today, with a single white stripe and blank number circles, came later and is believed to have been applied by the Connecticut dealer Skip Callahan. Bruce Herrington bought it in 1968 with 1,900 miles on it, and on 19 January 2017 Bonhams sold it at Scottsdale for $2,310,000. CMC's model is named after that sale.
CMC reproduces the car as sold: deep dark blue, a white stripe edged in fine red lines running over the nose, roof and tail, and plain white roundels waiting for numbers that never came. The front lid opens on the fuel tank and spare, the tail section swings back over the four-cam flat-four, and the doors open onto bright blue cloth seats, a grey-blue dashboard and a wood-rimmed wheel. Silver steel wheels complete it. A limited edition of 1,000. CMC builds it at 1:18.
