When Pagani unveiled the Zonda R in 2009, it was a track-only farewell to the Zonda that had no interest in homologation. Built around a carbon-titanium monocoque and powered by a 750bhp 6.0-litre Mercedes-AMG V12 derived from the CLK GTR race engine, it was lighter and more focused than anything the road cars allowed, and it later set a Nürburgring lap that put production machinery to shame. The intent is plain in the proportions: the long carbon nose, the deep front splitter, the towering swan-neck rear wing and the quartet of titanium exhausts exiting dead centre. This was Horacio Pagani settling an argument about how far the chassis could go.
The model is finished in bare matte carbon fibre, the weave left visible across the bodywork rather than buried under paint, set against bronze split-spoke wheels and the thin orange pinstripe that traces the flanks. Twin exhaust tips, the exposed rear suspension and the full aero kit are all picked out, and it sits on a carbon-topped presentation base. It is built at 1:18: the Zonda at its most extreme.
