Mercedes-AMG developed the M158 specially for the Huayra, at Pagani's request: a 5,980cc twin-turbocharged V12 given smaller turbochargers, a different intercooler layout and its own engine software to cut turbo lag. It makes 730 hp at 5,800 rpm and 1,000 Nm from 2,250 rpm. Dry-sump lubrication keeps the oil supply steady under hard cornering and lets the engine sit lower in the car, and the titanium exhaust by MHG-Fahrzeugtechnik, with Inconel silencers for the hottest sections, weighs less than 10 kg. The Huayra, named after Wayra Tata, the wind god of the Quechua people, was unveiled in 2011, and Pagani's agreement with AMG limited the coupé to 100 cars.
FrontiArt's display piece shows the engine with the rear of the car built around it: the tubular subframe, gold-finished wishbones, red coil-over dampers and drilled discs with red calipers lettered Pagani. Carbon covers carry the AMG badge, ribbed gold covers top the cylinder banks, and the exhaust runs back through two violet silencers lettered Pagani to four tailpipes clustered at the centre. The whole assembly stands on black posts above a carbon-weave base, whose plaque carries the Huayra script, the Pagani badge and the edition, one of 888. FrontiArt builds it in resin at 1:6.
