The 722 Edition arrived in 2006 and took its name from the 1955 Mille Miglia, which Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson won in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR carrying start number 722, for its 7.22 am start time. Compared with the standard SLR, the supercharged 5.4-litre V8 rose to 650 PS and 820 Nm, the dampers were stiffer and the ride 10 mm lower, 19-inch wheels cut unsprung weight, and the front brakes grew to 390 mm. A revised front air dam and rear diffuser came with it, the rear spoiler rose to 15 degrees at speed instead of 10, and red 722 badges marked the car. Production was limited to 150. As on every SLR, the exhausts leave through the sides, because the flat underbody and diffuser leave no room at the back.
This example carries a custom finish. The front half is matte silver, and from the doors back a pattern of small three-pointed stars spreads over the body, growing denser until the roof, rear wings and tail are black with silver stars. A thin teal stripe runs along each sill under the side exhaust pipes, and the red 722 badge sits on the front wing. The splitter is carbon, and the gloss black multi-spoke wheels have red calipers behind them. The car stands on a tan leather base. IVY builds it at 1:18.
