Mercedes introduced the latest G-Class, the W465, on 26 March 2024. It keeps the boxy body and the body-on-frame chassis with three locking differentials, and adds a 48-volt hybrid system to the petrol and diesel engines. The G 63 is the only version with a V8 petrol engine, AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbo unit, and a month later the fully electric G 580 with EQ Technology joined the range. The G has been built in Graz since 1979, when the first civilian models went on sale, and today Magna Steyr assembles it there. The 500,000th G-Class was built in April 2023, a one-off in agave green with a black front end and amber indicators.
This piece is in a metallic grey that reads darker in shadow, over gloss-black AMG multi-spoke wheels with red calipers. The grille has vertical bars around a large star, with round headlamps either side and an AMG plate below. Another AMG plate sits on the rear bumper, and the silver spare wheel cover carries the star on a black band. Side pipes exit ahead of the rear wheels, beneath chrome running boards. It stands on a carbon-patterned base with a Mercedes-AMG G63 plaque. It is built at 1:18.
