AMG built the CLK GTR for the GT1 class of the new FIA GT Championship, to take on the Porsche 911 GT1 and the McLaren F1 GTR, and bought a McLaren F1 GTR chassis to use as a development mule. The car was developed in 128 days, with a carbon-fibre monocoque from Lola Composites and the 6.0-litre LS600 V12, derived from the M120, giving 600 PS. Bernd Schneider put it on pole at its debut in the Hockenheim 4 Hours in 1997 but retired, and by the end of that first season Mercedes had won both championships with Schneider as champion. Car number 12 won the sixth round at the A1-Ring in Austria, with Klaus Ludwig, Bernd Mayländer and Bernd Schneider credited.

This piece is in bare silver with 12 on a white panel on each door, Warsteiner on the bonnet, doors and tail, and CLK Sportswear across the flanks and rear panel beside a large monochrome photograph of a figure. Bridgestone, Mobil 1, D2 and H&R logos fill the splitter, wing and sills. The wheels are silver multi-spoke, the mirrors are red, and the tall rear wing carries Mobil 1 across its top. It stands on a white leather base with red stitching and a plaque naming the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. IVY builds it at 1:18.
