Beneath its formal coachwork the Mercedes-Benz 600 was a technical tour de force. Its M100 V8 displaced 6.3 litres and made 250 PS on Bosch mechanical fuel injection, enough to carry even the long Pullman with ease, while a comfort-hydraulic system pressurised to around 150 bar worked the windows, seats, sunroof, boot lid and ventilation flaps in near silence. Built from 1963 to 1981, 2,677 were made, and only 59 of them were Landaulets, the version with a folding hood over the rear compartment, offered from 1965. CMC's subject is a six-door Pullman Landaulet of 1970, in a far softer colour scheme than the formal black the 600 is usually remembered in.
The paint is sand-beige metallic over a dark red-brown roof, and the rear hood is a working fabric top with an extra leather cover; that hood alone is made of 82 parts, 72 of them metal. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in brown velour with wood across the dashboard, doors and centre console, and the rear compartment carries a replica television receiver and aerial. Six doors open, four with exterior handles, along with the bonnet over the V8 and the boot. No plates are fitted. CMC builds it at 1:18, in a limited edition of 800.
