McLaren showed the P1 as a concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and the production car at Geneva in 2013, and it is seen as the spiritual successor to the F1. Frank Stephenson styled it around a carbon fibre monocoque. A 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 works with an electric motor for a combined 916 PS, and the Instant Power Assist System uses that motor for an immediate boost. The rear wing works as a drag reduction system on the straights, and the car makes 600 kg of downforce at 257 km/h. McLaren built 375, followed by special editions including the track-only P1 GTR, rated at 1,000 PS.
This piece wears a tribute to McLaren's Marlboro years, the red and white of cars such as the 1988 MP4/4, which won 15 of 16 races with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. The P1 never raced in it. Marlboro is written across the white nose, the number 21 sits on the bonnet and doors, Shell emblems are on the flanks, and HDK is printed on the sides and across the white rear wing. The red and white meet over black lower sections, with matt black multi-spoke wheels on Pirelli tyres and a carbon diffuser. It stands on a white leather base with red stitching. It is built at 1:18.
