Toyota began work on the LFA in early 2000 under the codename TXS, showed the first LF-A concept at the North American International Auto Show in January 2005, and unveiled the production car at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2009. Its 4.8-litre V10 was co-developed with Yamaha and revs to 9,000 rpm. It climbs from idle to redline in about 0.6 seconds, too fast for an analogue needle, so the car was given a digital tachometer. About 65% of the body is carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, the gearbox sits in a rear transaxle for balance, and chief engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi chose a front engine because it is more forgiving to drive. Production ran from December 2010 to December 2012, and 500 were built.
Make Up paints it in Lapis Lazuli, a dark navy metallic, with dark grey multi-spoke wheels and orange brake calipers. The rear carries the LFA plate, three tailpipes set in a triangle and a black diffuser, and a tan cabin shows through the rear glass. The car stands on a white acrylic base raised on clear posts, with a white plaque naming the LFA. Make Up builds it at 1:43.
