Alongside the three works C-Types at Le Mans in 1953 ran a fourth, in Belgian racing yellow. XKC 047 belonged to Roger Laurent and was entered by Ecurie Francorchamps, the team Jacques Swaters had founded the year before, but it was prepared at the works and tended by factory mechanics: a privateer entry in name, a back-up to the lightweight team cars in practice. Laurent and Charles de Tornaco brought it home ninth overall after 275 laps, in the race the works cars won outright, finishing first, second and fourth. The car's later story is a collector's tale of its own. Re-stamped XKC 011 at the factory before a 1955 sale, it had its true identity re-established only in 2016, the year it sold at Bonhams in Monaco for €7,245,000.
CMC finishes it in that bright Belgian yellow, with white #20 roundels on the nose, flanks and tail. The one-piece bonnet hinges forward and locks, opening the whole front of the car to the twin-cam straight-six, its pipework and wiring; the small driver's door opens onto black leather seats and a black-rimmed wheel. The stainless-spoked wire wheels are held by knock-off hubs. A limited edition of 1,000. CMC builds it at 1:18, from 1,162 parts.
