The C-Type's reputation was made at Le Mans, twice in three years. In 1951 Peter Walker and Peter Whitehead won the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the car's first attempt. In 1953 the works cars came back with triple Weber carburettors and disc brakes on all four wheels, and Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton won again, the first time Le Mans had been won at an average of more than 100 mph, with their team-mates second and fourth behind them. Few sports-racing cars have done so much in so short a life: the C-Type was built only from 1951 to 1953.
CMC chose the C-Type for its 25th anniversary, and this is the special edition it made on the occasion of the Techno Classica 2020: a deep gold flecked with metallic, with no numbers or decals, so that the shape is all there is to look at. The single-piece bonnet hinges forward and locks to reveal the straight-six; the driver's door opens to black leather seats and a black-rimmed wheel, the passenger side under a tonneau. Wire wheels with stainless spokes and knock-off hubs complete it. A limited edition of 300 for Europe. CMC builds it at 1:18, from 1,155 parts.
