Pininfarina showed the P6 at the Turin Motor Show in 1968 as a rolling chassis, a design study that never received the mid-mounted 3-litre V12 it was drawn around. Leonardo Fioravanti, who had joined Pininfarina in 1964, played a central part in its design, and Paolo Pininfarina later called it the mother of all berlinettas. Enzo Ferrari was still wary of mid-engined road cars, so the P6 stayed a styling exercise, but its ideas fed into the Berlinetta Boxer of 1971. The cues are easy to read: a sharp nose with rectangular lamps, front wings that rise above a very low bonnet, a steep windscreen flowing into a long roof, and ducts along each flank meant to feed air to the engine. At Turin the car was pearl white; it was later repainted metallic blue and then grey, and has since been restored to white.
The model is in that original white, with a red interior visible through the wide glass. Each front cluster holds three headlamps behind a clear cover, above a fine grille and the small Ferrari shield. A set of silver louvres covers the engine bay and the tail carries a FERRARI P.6 badge between red lamp bars. The five-spoke wheels are silver. It sits on a black grained base with a metal plaque reading P6 Prototype 1968 White, Limited Edition, one of 20, and is built at 1:18.
