Enzo Ferrari signed off the F40 in 1987 to mark the company's fortieth year, the last new model launched under his watch. Underneath the Kevlar and carbon-fibre body sat a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V8 and almost no concession to comfort: drilled pedals, sliding plexiglass windows, a cabin stripped to bare composite and a single shade of red cloth, all of it visible here through the glass. The pop-up headlamps, the slatted engine cover feeding that enormous rear wing, the NACA ducts down the flanks: every surface earns its place. Ferrari quoted a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph), and it remains the car by which all other Ferraris are measured.
Seen here away from its native Rosso Corsa, the car wears a cool gunmetal silver that throws the body's creases into relief and plays against the gold split-rim wheels and red tail lenses. It is built at 1:18 on a leather-trimmed presentation base, with the engine bay, louvres and stripped interior all rendered in full.
