Ferrari unveiled the 458 Speciale at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013 as the high-performance version of the 458 Italia. The 4.5-litre V8 was reworked to give 605 PS at 9,000 rpm and 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm, and Ferrari quoted 0 to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds. Movable flaps at the front and rear, developed by the Ferrari Styling Centre with Pininfarina, balance downforce and cut drag as speed rises. A new system, Side Slip Angle Control, compares the car's slide with a target value moment by moment and adjusts the delivery of torque to suit. Ferrari claimed a Fiorano lap of 1:23.5, only half a second slower than the F12 berlinetta, and Top Gear named the Speciale its Supercar of the Year for 2013.
This one is finished in matte red, with a stripe of exposed carbon weave, edged in silver, running over the bonnet and roof. Carbon also lines the bonnet vents, the front splitter and the small fins on the sills, and the bright chrome twin five-spoke wheels show red calipers behind them. The cabin is black. The car stands on chrome posts on a white leather base stitched in red, and the black plaque lists the engine figures and reads Limited, one of 8. The model is built at 1:18.
