Ferrari unveiled the mid-engined 250 LM at the Paris show in October 1963 as the successor to the GTO, but in April 1964 the FIA refused to homologate it as a GT car, so it had to race among the prototypes. Chassis 5909 began with Luigi Chinetti's North American Racing Team, finishing second in the Reims 12 Hours with John Surtees and Lorenzo Bandini, before Bob Grossman took it over for his Scuderia Bear later in 1964. Grossman had it repainted silver with a blue, white and red stripe and took it to the Bahamas for Nassau Speed Week. In the Tourist Trophy on 29 November he finished third overall, and the following week he won his class in both the Governor's Trophy and the Nassau Trophy.

The model wears Grossman's Nassau colours: metallic silver, the blue, white and red stripe running from nose to tail, #90 roundels and blue-walled Goodyear tyres. The whole rear body tilts up to expose the V12, the suspension and the inboard rear brakes; the front lid opens to a spare wheel held by straps, and the doors have sliding windows. The right-hand-drive cockpit has blue seats with textile centres, belts and a wood-rimmed wheel. CMC builds it at 1:18 as a hand-assembled metal precision model of more than 1,800 parts, in a limited edition of 1,500.
