The mistral is the strong wind that blows down the Rhône valley to the Mediterranean, and Bugatti chose the name for the roadster that closed the W16 era. Drawn by Frank Heyl and Florian Westermann with design chief Achim Anscheidt, the W16 Mistral is its own car, not an open Chiron. The horseshoe grille is deeper, wider and more three-dimensional, the headlamps are stacked vertically with a four-light signature that Bugatti linked to the four-wheel drive and four turbochargers, and the tail uses an X motif. The oil cooler intakes stay on the sides, while the engine breathes through two roof scoops just behind the occupants, a nod to the 1934 Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid.
This piece is finished in Doré, a metallic gold, set against bare carbon on the sills, splitter, rear deck and diffuser, with a small tricolore on each sill. Through the open top the cabin shows orange-brown trim, and the stacked headlamps, the horseshoe grille with its red badge and the red X of the rear lights stand out against the gold. The wheels are dark multi-spoke designs. It sits on a navy leather base with pale blue stitching and a Mistral nameplate. MR Collection builds it in resin at 1:18.
