John Baldessari's BMW Art Car, the nineteenth in the series, was painted in early November 2016 with a team of BMW engineers at the BMW Body & Paint Training Center West in Oxnard, California. It was the American conceptual artist's first work on a car, and he called it the fastest artwork he had ever made. He worked in his own vocabulary on an M6 GTLM racer: flat colour in red, yellow, blue and green, his monochrome dots, a red dot on the roof to be read from above, and the single word FAST along the flank. The car was unveiled at Art Basel Miami Beach on 30 November 2016 and raced in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2017 for BMW Team RLL, driven by Bill Auberlen, Alexander Sims, Augusto Farfus and Bruno Spengler.
The model carries the scheme in full: white bodywork, a yellow band over the bonnet, red and green dots on the nose, a red roof and a blue rear wing with yellow endplates, together with the #19, the IMSA and GTLM decals and blue-lettered Michelin tyres on black wheels. The roll cage and racing seat show through the glass. It stands on clear supports over a brushed metal base engraved Art Car John Baldessari BMW M6 GTLM, 2016. Minichamps makes it in diecast at 1:18.
