BMW GINA Light Visionary Model, Powder Blue

Most concept cars are sculptures; the GINA was designed to move. Beneath its fabric skin, electro-hydraulic actuators let the rear section and the rocker panels change both their shape and their function as conditions require. At speed, a spoiler that lies hidden under the rear deck rises automatically to put more downforce on the rear axle. When the driver climbs in, the doors swing upwards and outwards, gathering the fabric into folds along the flank that disappear as they close. Revealed by BMW in June 2008, it treated the shape seen at rest as only one of the forms the car could take.

Powder blue metallic, pale and soft with a silvery flake, gives this example a lighter, almost pastel character, paired with a white and light grey interior. The white-rimmed steering wheel, the stacked dials and the grey console are neatly modelled, the divided windscreen sits between body-coloured mirror stalks, and the open headlamps, kidney grilles, split-spoke wheels and paired tailpipes in a carbon-weave diffuser are all crisply finished.
