The Grand Prix de Marseille was not run in Marseille at all but at Miramas, a flat oval of a little over 5 km to the north-west, where 100 laps made 504.9 km of flat-out running. On 27 August 1933 Louis Chiron lined up in one of the Tipo Bs that Alfa Romeo had just released to Scuderia Ferrari. Tazio Nuvolari was the fastest man in practice and led the race until lap 80, when a rear hub broke; Chiron went through to win by 70 seconds from Luigi Fagioli, his first victory in an Alfa Romeo. He would add the Masaryk Circuit at Brno and the Spanish Grand Prix before the season was out.
This is the one P3 in the set to run on bright wire wheels rather than black, which changes the whole look of the car: deep red bodywork, white #42 across the cowl, polished spokes and alloy rims flashing beneath. The louvred bonnet opens on both sides to the supercharged straight-eight, the cockpit has its leather seat and wood-rimmed wheel, and the ladder frame and suspension are worked in metal. The wheels come off by their central locking nuts and the floor pan unscrews. A limited edition of 1,000. CMC builds it at 1:18, from 1,805 parts.
